As well as heating hot water is also important in a expedition truck build.
There are many different ways of heating hot water in a camper. A lot will have to do with budget and the area available within the van or truck build. This section has partially be dedicated by the chosen heating system back in Phase 7. A feature I wanted to have was a choice of where the hot water came from and again as always a backup solution. So I decided upon having a selectable system between different boilers.
The main hot water system will be provided by a tankless constant on demand boiler using the Truma Aqua Compact Pro. This is LPG gas powered and provides constant hot water at the turn of the tap. And provides you with that longer shower if needed.
With a press of a switch I will be able to change over to Truma Combi D 6 E Boiler that was installed for the heating system, this has a built in 10litre tank. Using either diesel or electric fuel source. It require 20 minutes to heat the tank of hot water, with enough for a quick shower.
These are more common in US campers and RV's. They operate very much like the combination boiler you have in your home. Once you turn on the hot tap water is continuously heated on demand until you turn it off. The important thing to remember is the limited amount of freshwater you have onboard. It could easily be consumed when wanting extended showers. Some conversions incorporate a recycling shower system where the shower water is recycled and therefore allow endless showers. These boilers are staring to be seen in a lot more European campers and conversions lately.
I will be installing the plumbing etc at this stage of the build. But will not commission until later in the vehicles life. I have further testing and research I would like to do before committing.
Diesel for both the Truma Combi D 6 E Boiler and Eberspacher Hydronic D5WSC heater will come from the vehicles main fuel tank. This being 600 litres will be more than enough to power both boilers for a considerable amount of time.
I am installing a secured refillable bottle system within the garage part of the habitation box. It will consist of a GAS IT 2x Large 18kg refillable LPG gas bottles with separate inlet and outlets.
